FOSTER CARE ... YOUR OPEN DOOR IS HOPE
BECOME A FOSTER FAMILY
According to
the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services (ODJFS), when it has been
determined that a child must be removed from the home and a court grants
temporary custody of the child to the Public Children Services agency
(PCSA), the PCSA worker first attempts to find a placement with a
suitable relative to enable the child to maintain family bonds.
When a suitable relative is not available, the PCSA worker attempts to
find placement with a suitable non-relative with whom the child/family
has a relationship. Suitable relatives and non-relatives are
either licensed by ODJFS or approved by the PCSA. If the PCSA is
unable to place the child with a relative, or non-relative who has
relationship with the family, the child is placed into a licensed foster
care setting.
The Agency will begin the
home study process involving interviews and visits to your home by the
Child Placement Coordinator. During this process we will explore
with your family if foster parenting is the right decision for your
family and determine the type of child you wish to foster.
Information that is gathered during this process is confidential.
Once this has been completed you will then be required to complete
certain documentation and training prior to the agency making a
recommendation, in accordance with the standards set by the Ohio
Department of Job & Family Services, to the state for certification to
become licensed as a foster home.
